Time is running out for millions of Nigerians who want to have a say in the country’s future. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a final reminder as the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise officially closes today, Sunday, July 26, 2026.
INEC urged eligible citizens who have not registered or updated their voter details to act immediately before the deadline. The commission stressed that voter registration remains the first step for Nigerians who want to participate in the 2027 general election.
In a message shared on X, INEC encouraged citizens not to miss the opportunity to make their voices count.
“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” the commission said. “Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.”
The electoral body advised Nigerians to complete their registration through its online CVR portal or visit INEC offices in their states or local government areas before the exercise ends.
Beyond new registrations, the CVR exercise also allowed registered voters to transfer their voting locations, correct personal details and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The latest registration exercise followed a nationwide programme that INEC conducted in phases. The first phase started in August 2025 with online pre-registration before physical registration began later that month. By December, INEC recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations.
The commission recorded more progress during the second phase, which ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026. During that period, 3,748,704 Nigerians completed their registrations nationwide.
INEC later introduced the third phase in May and extended the deadline by two weeks in July to give more citizens the chance to participate.Now that the deadline has arrived, INEC has urged Nigerians not to wait until the next election cycle before taking action. The commission reminded citizens that having a valid voter registration is essential for anyone who wants to decide the country’s future through the ballot box.
