Ayra Starr is taking a major step from Afrobeats to Hollywood, giving fans their first glimpse of her acting debut in the highly anticipated fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone. The Nigerian singer appears in the first teaser for the movie, which arrives in cinemas and IMAX on January 15, 2027.
The preview offers a first look at Ayra Starr in character as she joins a star-studded international cast featuring Idris Elba, Damson Idris, Viola Davis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Tosin Cole, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Thuso Mbedu.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the teaser comes ahead of the film’s official trailer release. It features behind-the-scenes moments from the production, showing the cast and crew bringing the much-loved fantasy story to life.
Fans also got a glimpse of Ayra Starr in costume for her first acting role. The teaser also includes Nigerian singer Tems’ hit song “Me & U” on its soundtrack.
Based on Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling 2018 novel, Children of Blood and Bone tells the story of Zélie Adebola, a young woman fighting to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha after a powerful monarchy destroys it.
For Ayra Starr, the move marks a new chapter in her career. The singer previously opened up about the challenge of switching from music to acting, admitting that the experience changed her perspective on the film industry.
“This is my first movie ever. You know, I’m used to being a singer and diva on set, but this one with the movie is like, it’s not about you,” she said.
Ayra explained that acting taught her discipline and gave her a deeper respect for actors.
The film, produced by Paramount Pictures, brings together African and international talents to adapt one of the biggest young adult fantasy novels of recent years.
Adding even more Nigerian star power, Tems serves as executive music supervisor, while Burna Boy contributes as a music consultant, making the project a major cultural moment ahead of its global release.
