Tyla must not have that show – Solomon Buchi

Solomon Buchi has ignited fresh debate online after urging Nigerians to boycott South African singer Tyla’s planned concert, arguing that her silence during xenophobic attacks against Nigerians should not be overlooked.

The Nigerian writer and commentator questioned why Tyla now wants to perform in Nigeria despite never publicly condemning attacks on Nigerians and other African immigrants in South Africa.

He argued that Nigerians should use the concert to send a strong message against xenophobia instead of welcoming the singer.

“Tyla must not have that show,” Buchi said.

He urged Nigerians to support local artistes rather than attend Tyla’s performance.

Buchi also said fans who enjoy Tyla’s music could travel to South Africa to watch her perform instead.

At the same time, he encouraged anyone who attends the concert in Nigeria to stage a peaceful protest against xenophobia.

“It’s not about Tyla. I have no beef with her, but it’s about coming together as a people and saying, no, we have a voice and that voice matters,” he said.

His comments quickly sparked mixed reactions online. Some Nigerians backed his call and demanded stronger action against xenophobia. Others argued that entertainers should not answer for the actions of their governments or fellow citizens.

A mother's emotional story about raising twins without breast milk has sparked conversations online, as she reminded other parents that every motherhood journey looks different. The mother shared the progress of her twins after a debate erupted over comments that appeared to criticise women who use baby formula instead of exclusively breastfeeding. The conversation started when a mother posted photos of the tins of formula her baby had consumed. Mummy Zee, who gained popularity years ago after sharing how she woke up early during pregnancy to cook for her husband, responded that exclusive breastfeeding is always cheaper. Her comment quickly divided social media users. While some people agreed with her and criticised mothers who rely on formula, many others pushed back. Several mothers explained that exclusive breastfeeding was not always possible due to health challenges, work demands and other personal circumstances. Some fathers also shared reasons why their wives could not breastfeed exclusively. Amid the debate, one mother shared photos of her twins and opened up about her own experience. “My twins never tasted breast milk,” she wrote. She explained that she struggled physically and emotionally while trying to produce milk but nothing worked despite the efforts made to help her. “I remember feeling afraid and ashamed,” she said. However, she chose to trust that her children would be fine. “Today, my babies are healthy. They are top of their classes. Life happens. I’m beyond grateful,” she added. Her message has encouraged many parents online, with several people sharing their own experiences and emphasising that a child's wellbeing goes beyond the method used to feed them.
