Angélique Kidjo Makes History With Hollywood Walk of Fame Star
Beninese music legend Angélique Kidjo has reached another major milestone after receiving a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The honour recognises her decades-long contribution to music, her global influence and her role in taking African sounds and stories to audiences around the world.
Kidjo received the prestigious star in the Recording category. She has now become the first African musician and the first Black African to receive the coveted Hollywood Walk of Fame honour.
The recognition adds to an already remarkable career that includes five Grammy Awards, 18 albums and decades of musical achievements.
Throughout her career, Kidjo has used her music to showcase African culture while connecting with audiences across different parts of the world.
Announcing the honour, Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, praised Kidjo for her artistry and international impact.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome Angélique Kidjo to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Martinez said.
She described Kidjo’s influence as one that has inspired audiences across generations and continents.
Martinez also said the honour recognises Kidjo’s major contributions to music and culture worldwide.
Born in Ouidah, Benin Republic, Kidjo has built an impressive international career and collaborated with some of the biggest names in music.
Her collaborations include Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Yemi Alade and Mr Eazi, as well as international artistes such as Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel and John Legend.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame recognition now adds another historic achievement to Kidjo’s celebrated career and further highlights the growing global influence of African music.
