President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerian medical professionals abroad to return home and support the growth of the country’s healthcare sector.
The President made the call on Friday at the State House while receiving members of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations. NiDCOM Director-General, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, led the delegation to the meeting.
Tinubu shared his own experience of living and working in the United States. He said his decision to return to Nigeria showed him that “there is nowhere like home.”
Reflecting on his journey, the President recalled his early career in America. He noted that he gained valuable experience there before returning to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
According to Tinubu, returning home came with challenges but also gave him an opportunity to serve his country. He encouraged the medical professionals to inspire their colleagues abroad to come back.
“Try to attract them home,” the President told the health workers. He assured them that his administration would continue working to create better conditions for professionals in Nigeria.
Furthermore, Tinubu said the Renewed Hope Agenda aims to improve education, development, healthcare and prosperity. He added that the government is focused on building a stronger future for Nigerian children.
The President also promised to continue fighting poverty and improving living standards across the country. He described poverty as unacceptable and said his government would work towards creating more opportunities.
“Poverty is not acceptable. We won’t accept it. We will fight it. We will bring prosperity. We will bring care to our people,” Tinubu said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria continues to face challenges caused by the migration of doctors and other healthcare workers seeking better opportunities abroad. However, the government says it is working on reforms that will encourage skilled Nigerians to return and contribute to national growth.
