A routine day inside a Lagos building turned into a tense rescue operation after a man suddenly found himself trapped inside a faulty elevator.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully rescued an adult male who became stuck inside a malfunctioning lift at a three-storey building on Freeman Street, Zapass, Lagos Island East LCDA, on Tuesday.
The emergency response began after the agency received a distress call at about 11:50 a.m. Rescue officials quickly dispatched a team from the Ebute Elefun Fire Station to the location.
Within five minutes of receiving the alert, firefighters arrived and immediately started efforts to free the trapped occupant. Their swift response helped bring the situation under control.
The rescue team eventually opened the elevator and brought the man out safely. Officials confirmed that he did not suffer any injuries during the incident.
A preliminary investigation by the fire service showed that the incident occurred due to an accidental malfunction of the elevator. No foul play was suspected.
The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that the operation ended successfully. She stated that no casualties or injuries were recorded.
The agency also reassured Lagos residents of its continued commitment to responding quickly to emergencies and protecting lives across the state.
The incident serves as another reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for building facilities, especially equipment such as elevators that people rely on every day.
