Man Arrested for Stealing 22 Pairs of Trousers for Ritual in Adamawa
A 27-year-old man has been remanded in a correctional facility in Yola, Adamawa State, after police accused him of stealing 22 pairs of women’s pants for ritual purposes.
The suspect, identified as Muktar Shehu, appeared before Chief Magistrate Court 3 in Yola.
Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi ordered his remand after the Adamawa State Police Command brought him before the court.
Shehu lives in Zango Ward, Jimeta, within Yola North Local Government Area of the state.
The police charged him with house trespass, theft and criminal charm.
Inspector Danjuma Hamidu, who prosecuted the case, presented a First Information Report before the court.
According to the report, Shehu allegedly broke into the home of Halima Yakubu on August 6, 2026.
Police accused him of taking 22 pairs of pants along with other clothes from the house.
During police interrogation, the prosecutor told the court that Shehu admitted taking the items for ritual purposes.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the alleged offences when he appeared in court.
However, the prosecutor asked the court for permission to call a witness to support the guilty plea.
Following the proceedings, the magistrate ordered that Shehu remain in custody at a correctional facility in Yola.
The court will determine the next steps in the case as the prosecution presents further evidence.
