Georgina Rodriguez has opened up about her intimate wedding to football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and explained why they chose to exchange vows in their living room.
The couple recently announced their marriage in a joint Instagram post.
Rather than stage a lavish ceremony, Ronaldo and Rodriguez opted for a private celebration at their mansion in Cascais, Portugal.
The decision surprised fans who might have expected the couple to host a grand wedding.
However, Rodriguez said the intimate setting reflected what marriage means to them.
Speaking to Vogue, she revealed that her idea of the perfect wedding changed as she grew older.
As a child, Rodriguez imagined a spectacular fairy-tale ceremony.
“As a little girl, I envisioned the grandest castle, the most magnificent carriage, the longest gown and a crown adorned with diamonds,” she said.
Her priorities are now very different.
Rodriguez explained that she no longer wanted an extravagant celebration. Instead, she wanted a quiet moment with Ronaldo and their children.
“Now, I find myself saying: no. I desire something intimate, shared with my partner and our children, in the comfort of our home,” she said.
She also pointed out that luxury is already part of their everyday lives.
“We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day,” Rodriguez explained.
For the couple, a private wedding therefore felt more meaningful.
“However, an intimate gathering is something more unique for us,” she added.
Why they chose their living room
Rodriguez said the location also carried deep sentimental value for the family.
The couple chose their living room because it forms part of their everyday family life.
“We chose to hold the ceremony in our living room, the place where we share breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we experience our daily lives,” she said.
For Rodriguez, the decision was about creating a memory that their children could carry into the future.
“In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something wonderful occurred at this table, the wedding vows of our parents,” she added.
The intimate ceremony allowed Ronaldo and Rodriguez to focus on their family rather than the size or extravagance of the celebration.
For the couple, the meaning behind the moment mattered more than putting on a lavish wedding.
