INEC Declares Ademola Adeleke Winner of 2026 Osun Election
Ademola Adeleke has secured another term as the Governor of Osun State after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared him the winner of the 2026 governorship election.
The returning officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced Adeleke’s victory on Sunday morning, August 16.
He made the declaration after officials completed the collation of results from all 30 local government areas across the state.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes.
His closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, secured 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
The result gives Adeleke another four years at the helm of affairs in Osun.
He first became governor in 2022 after defeating the incumbent at the time, Gboyega Oyetola, in a closely watched election.
With his latest victory, Adeleke will now continue his administration beyond his first term.
The election had attracted significant attention as major political parties battled for control of the South-West state.
INEC’s declaration has now formally confirmed Adeleke as the winner of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
