US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran as Gulf Tensions Explode

The fragile peace between the United States and Iran appears to have collapsed, raising fears of a wider conflict across the Middle East after fresh U.S. airstrikes triggered swift Iranian retaliation and sent air raid sirens blaring across Gulf states.
The United States launched a new wave of military strikes on Iran and reinstated oil sanctions on Monday, accusing Tehran of attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran quickly responded by claiming responsibility for strikes on 85 U.S. military installations, marking one of the most significant escalations between the two countries in recent months.
The latest confrontation comes despite a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by both nations last month, which was intended to ease tensions and safeguard maritime security in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Air raid sirens sounded across Bahrain and Kuwait after Iran announced its retaliatory operation. Meanwhile, Washington said its military response followed attacks on three commercial vessels, including Qatari and Saudi oil tankers, navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Treasury Department also revoked a sanctions waiver that had allowed Iran to continue limited oil exports under the interim agreement reached on June 17. According to U.S. officials, Iran failed to meet its obligations under the deal, prompting the reimposition of sanctions from July 17.
American forces also targeted sites linked to Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that the central shipping channel had become unsafe due to extensive mining and continued restrictions on commercial navigation.
U.S. officials insist Tehran violated the agreement, while Iranian authorities maintain Washington broke the deal first, leaving both sides blaming each other for the renewed hostilities.
The latest escalation has intensified concerns about global energy supplies, regional security, and the possibility of a broader military confrontation in one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
