LGAN Moves to Secure Medical Support for African Golf Events
With golfers from about 30 African countries expected in Abuja, organisers of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy are putting medical preparedness high on the agenda ahead of the continental competition.
The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria is seeking a partnership with the National Hospital Abuja to provide medical and emergency support throughout the tournament and the Nigeria Ladies Open Championship.
LGAN President and Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Lami Ahmed, visited the hospital on Wednesday to formally present the request.
Nigeria will host the All Africa Challenge Trophy from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
The Nigeria Ladies Open Championship will follow from November 7 to 10, bringing more players, officials and other participants to the capital.
Ahmed said the expected turnout made it important to establish reliable medical arrangements before the competitions begin.
She asked National Hospital Abuja to serve as the principal medical partner for both tournaments.
Under the proposed partnership, LGAN wants an equipped ambulance, qualified medical personnel and essential emergency supplies available throughout the events.
The association also requested clear evacuation and referral procedures for participants who may need further treatment.
Ahmed further called for the hospital to support the tournament’s medical and safety committee and ensure participants requiring urgent care receive prompt attention.
The management of National Hospital Abuja welcomed the proposal and indicated that it would review the request before working with the organisers on appropriate emergency-response arrangements.
The All Africa Challenge Trophy is one of Africa’s major women’s amateur golf competitions. Its staging in Nigeria is expected to attract leading amateur golfers from across the continent.
The event will also give Nigeria an opportunity to showcase its capacity to host international sporting competitions while giving local golfers the chance to compete against players from other African countries.
With the November tournaments drawing closer, organisers are continuing preparations across medical care, safety, logistics and other areas needed for a successful championship.
