Juliana Olayode Defends Women Who Desire Marriage
Wanting to become a wife should not automatically earn a woman the label of “desperate,” according to Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode.
The actress has spoken out against the growing tendency to mock or criticise women who openly say they want marriage, insisting that the desire for a husband does not mean a woman has lost herself or abandoned her ambitions.
In a post shared on Instagram, Olayode said women should be free to make their own choices about marriage.
She noted that those who prefer to remain single deserve to have that choice respected. However, she argued that women who genuinely hope to marry should receive the same understanding.
According to the actress, being excited about becoming a wife does not make a woman less ambitious or suggest that she has nothing else happening in her life.
Olayode acknowledged that marriage can be challenging and that some unions eventually end painfully. Nevertheless, she said some people simply believe marriage is beautiful and want the opportunity to experience it.
She also recounted an encounter at a salon where she heard women criticising another woman for expressing her desire to get married.
Olayode said she ended up giving her unsolicited opinion during the conversation.
She later remembered the incident after coming across a “BRIDE” swimsuit a friend had gifted her in 2024. The timing, she said, made her laugh.
The actress maintained that people should not be pressured into marriage, but neither should those who desire it be made to feel ashamed.
She pointed out that women can pursue several goals at the same time, including faith, purpose, career, financial success, friendships, family and marriage.
For Olayode, wanting a husband does not cancel out any of those ambitions.
She therefore encouraged people to allow others to make their own choices about marriage without attaching negative labels to them.
The actress concluded by wishing women who desire marriage the opportunity to find good partners and build unions worthy of their hopes.
“Up Love! Up Marriage!” she added.
