Why Charly Boy Introduced Isbae U to Obasanjo
What began as an unexpected meeting between a former president and a young comedian has now revealed a surprising behind-the-scenes connection – Charly Boy.
The veteran entertainer and activist has disclosed that he helped bring Olusegun Obasanjo and Isbae U together for the viral Curiosity Made Me Ask interview.
Charly Boy shared the revelation on X on Monday while reflecting on the attention generated by Obasanjo’s appearance on the popular YouTube show.
For him, the interview was about more than the jokes and unexpected exchanges that dominated social media. He said it showed what can happen when young Nigerians receive opportunities and older generations are willing to embrace their ideas.
“Sometimes, the greatest thing you fit give a young person no be money. Na opportunity,” Charly Boy wrote.
He praised Obasanjo for stepping into an unfamiliar environment and engaging with Isbae U’s unconventional style.
According to Charly Boy, the former president did not remain distant or overly formal. Instead, he joined the humour and matched the energy of the young host.
“A man of his age and experience sat down with a young man whose style dey completely different from wetin he is used to,” he said.
Charly Boy then revealed the part he played in making the unusual interview possible.
“And who helped make that connection happen? CharlyBoy,” he wrote, adding that he believed in the young people behind the programme.
The interview later became a major talking point because of the relaxed exchange between Obasanjo and Isbae U.
During the programme, Isbae U jokingly presented Obasanjo as his former employee. He humorously claimed that he had paid the former president’s salary, provided his food and covered his rent at Aso Rock between 1999 and 2007.
Obasanjo played along with the joke and also answered questions about Nigerian pop culture.
Isbae U asked whether he knew personalities such as Don Jazzy, Poco Lee and Carter Efe. Obasanjo said he did not, leading to more playful moments between the two.
However, Charly Boy believes the interview carried a message beyond entertainment.
He urged older Nigerians to create real opportunities for younger people instead of simply telling them to succeed.
“To the older generation: don’t only tell young people to succeed. Give them room. Open doors. Recommend them. Trust them with opportunities,” he wrote.
He also challenged young Nigerians to prepare themselves for such opportunities.
“Don’t wait for somebody to hand you a future. Build something worth believing in. When opportunity comes, be ready,” he added.
Charly Boy ultimately described the encounter as an example of how different generations can benefit from supporting one another.
“When generations support each other, everybody gets to grow. Na so legacy suppose work,” he concluded.
