Oyo 2027: APC Candidate Alli Elevated by Olubadan
A fresh development in Ibadan’s traditional institution has placed Senator Sharafadeen Alli in the spotlight,
with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, conferring a higher traditional rank on the Oyo APC governorship candidate.
Ladoja has elevated Alli from Ekarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland. The development was announced by Alli in a statement shared on his X account on Saturday.
The senator, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was not present at the ceremony held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.
Alli explained that he is currently in the Holy Land performing Umrah and therefore could not attend the event personally.
In his reaction, he expressed appreciation to Ladoja and members of the Olubadan Advisory Council for the confidence placed in him. He also thanked the traditional rulers, Mogajis, Baales, political associates and friends who represented him at the ceremony.
For Alli, the latest elevation is not simply an addition to his traditional title. He described it as a responsibility that comes with a greater obligation to serve the people and contribute to the peace and development of Ibadanland.
The latest move follows a series of changes involving Alli within the traditional hierarchy.
In August 2024, he was elevated from Maye Balogun to Ekarun Balogun by the then Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
In April 2026, the Oyo State Government also conferred a beaded crown on Alli, alongside two other Ibadan high chiefs. At that ceremony, he was recognised as Ekarun Balogun, although he was absent.
Alli is also the APC’s candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, a position the party formally presented him for in September.
Following his latest elevation, Alli said he accepts the position as a responsibility from his people and is prepared to take on the duties attached to his new traditional rank.
