Madagascar Land in Uyo for AFCON 2027 Super Eagles Clash
The road to AFCON 2027 has officially started in Uyo, with Madagascar arriving in Nigeria ahead of a crucial opening qualifier against the Super Eagles.
The Malagasy team touched down at Victor Attah International Airport at about 2:05 p.m. on Monday, bringing the first major sign of preparations for Friday’s much-anticipated clash.
The 28-man delegation completed immigration formalities before heading to its hotel to begin preparations for the encounter.
More members of the Madagascar contingent are expected to join the squad on Tuesday, September 22, as head coach Corentin Martins puts the final pieces together.
Madagascar will face Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday, September 25, in their Matchday 1 fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The visitors will be hoping to make a strong start to their campaign when they take on the Super Eagles in Uyo.
Nigeria, meanwhile, will be looking to use home advantage to begin the qualifying campaign on a positive note.
Madagascar will have little time to dwell on the outcome of the Nigeria fixture, with another assignment already waiting.
Four days later, Martins’ men are scheduled to host Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in their Matchday 2 encounter.
The back-to-back fixtures will provide an early test for Madagascar as they begin their push for a place at the 2027 AFCON tournament.
With both sides preparing for Friday’s meeting, attention will now turn to team selection, final training sessions and preparations for what promises to be an important opening fixture in Uyo.
