Kwankwaso Fires Back at Sheikh Jingir Over Tinubu’s Ticket
Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential running mate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken a swipe at Islamic cleric Sani Jingir over his support for a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso argued that President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated a preference for religious balance throughout his political career.
The former Kano State governor made the comment while reacting to Jingir’s recent call for Nigerian Muslims to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim ticket again in 2027.
Speaking in Kano, Jingir reaffirmed his support for the arrangement. He said he would continue backing a Muslim-Muslim ticket, just as he did during the 2023 election.
Jingir also defended his position, saying his support reflects his commitment to Islam.
Kwankwaso, however, offered a different perspective during an interview with DCL Hausa.
He described Tinubu as a politician who values balance and fairness. He pointed to Tinubu’s political record in Lagos as evidence.
According to Kwankwaso, Tinubu supported religiously balanced tickets while serving as Lagos governor. He also noted that Tinubu chose Christian deputies during his time in office.
Kwankwaso then delivered his most striking remark.
He said Tinubu even practises a Muslim-Christian ticket in his own home, referring to the President and his wife, Remi Tinubu.
“Even in his own home, he practices a Muslim/Christian ticket ‘in the other room’ (Tinubu/Remi),” Kwankwaso said.
The comment has since drawn attention online, adding another layer to the ongoing debate over religious balance and the 2027 presidential election.
