Jesus Names Osimhen, Haaland as World’s Strongest
Victor Osimhen and Erling Haaland have been singled out by Portugal coach Jorge Jesus as the two most physically powerful forwards inside the penalty area.
Jesus made the assessment while discussing the threat posed by Haaland ahead of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League meeting with Norway in Oslo on Sunday.
The Norwegian striker again showed his qualities as Norway defeated Portugal 2-1, with Jesus highlighting the Manchester City star’s unique combination of strength and technical ability.
“Haaland is the most physically and technically powerful player inside the box,” Jesus said.
He, however, noted that Haaland’s influence is less overwhelming when he moves away from the penalty area.
“Outside the area, he isn’t quite as dominant, even though he is fast. But inside the box, for me, he and Osimhen are the strongest in the world,” he added.
The comparison places Osimhen in elite company, with both forwards known for their physical strength, aerial ability and ability to finish under pressure.
Haaland currently has the superior scoring record, with 371 goals for club and country compared with Osimhen’s 214 based on the figures cited in the report.
The two strikers have also experienced contrasting fortunes with injuries.
Osimhen has endured several setbacks during his career and is currently recovering from another injury, while Haaland has generally enjoyed more consistent fitness and availability.
Their styles may differ in some respects, but both remain powerful penalty-box operators who pose a constant threat to defenders.
Jesus’ remarks therefore underline the qualities that make Osimhen and Haaland among the most difficult forwards to contain when they get into dangerous positions.
