Iheanacho Matches Bursaspor Record After Scoring Streak
One more goal could put Kelechi Iheanacho alone in the Bursaspor record books after the Nigerian striker matched the club’s longest scoring run in league history.
Iheanacho continued his remarkable start in Turkey on Saturday, scoring twice as Bursaspor defeated Batman Petrolspor 2-1 away from home.
The brace took his league tally to 11 goals and two assists from just eight appearances. More importantly, he has now scored in all eight league matches he has played this season.
That run has seen Iheanacho equal a record set by Brazilian forward Fernandao during the 2014/15 Turkish Super Lig campaign.
Fernandao found the net in eight consecutive league games between rounds 12 and 19. His run began against Kasımpaşa in November 2014 and ended against Gençlerbirliği in January 2015.
At the time, Fernandao had scored 13 league goals in 18 appearances. He eventually finished that campaign with 22 goals and seven assists.
Now, Iheanacho has matched his eight-game scoring streak despite Bursaspor competing in Turkey’s second tier.
The Nigerian previously scored in six straight matches before finding the net twice against Manisa FK on September 7. He then continued the run against Esenler Erokspor before adding another two goals against Batman Petrolspor.
As a result, another league goal would give Iheanacho nine consecutive scoring appearances and establish a new Bursaspor record.
His goals have also helped Bursaspor make a strong push at the top of the second division. The club has collected 19 points from eight matches, recording six wins and one draw. They currently hold a three-point advantage over Kayserispor, despite having played one game fewer.
Iheanacho joined Bursaspor as a free agent during the summer after leaving Celtic. He had previously helped the Scottish club secure a domestic league and cup double.
His impressive form has also earned him a return to the Nigeria squad. The striker has been recalled for the Super Eagles’ friendly against Russia next month, marking his first international selection in more than a year.
His last involvement with Nigeria came during the 2025 Unity Cup in London.
With his confidence rising in Turkey, Iheanacho will now have another opportunity to impress Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle while chasing a new piece of Bursaspor history.
