Zaire Wade, the eldest son of former NBA star Dwyane Wade, has been formally charged with a felony following his arrest last month in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident.
According to reports, prosecutors reviewed the case and filed one felony charge against Wade after he was initially booked on three separate allegations following his arrest in Burbank, California.
Police said officers responded to a residence at about 5:30 a.m. on June 21 after receiving reports of a woman screaming inside the home. Upon arrival, authorities allegedly found Wade and a woman who had multiple lacerations to her face.
The woman, despite the reported injuries, was not taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Wade was initially arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, criminal threats, and false imprisonment. Following the arrest, authorities issued an emergency protective order related to the incident.
He was later released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond while the legal process continues.
Police call logs reportedly revealed that neighbours contacted authorities after hearing loud arguments, yelling, and stomping coming from the residence, prompting concerns that someone inside the home could be in danger.
The case remains before the courts, and the allegations against Zaire Wade have not been proven. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The development has drawn public attention due to Wade’s connection to his father, Dwyane Wade, a three-time NBA champion and Basketball Hall of Fame player. However, the ongoing case will now proceed through the legal system as authorities and the court determine the next steps.
