Nigerian content creator and influencer Caramel Plug has publicly accused Nollywood actress Anita Joseph of using one of her photographs without permission and digitally altering it by replacing Caramel Plug’s face with her own.

The controversy began after Caramel Plug noticed that a photo she had originally shared on her social media page had appeared on Anita Joseph’s account. According to the content creator, the image retained the exact same outfit, pose, background, and overall aesthetics, but the face had allegedly been edited to resemble the actress.
Caramel Plug said the original photograph featured her wearing a cream-coloured suit, a coffee-brown tie, a matching jacket, and yellow shoes. She expressed shock upon discovering what she described as a manipulated version of the same image on Anita Joseph’s page.
According to Caramel Plug, she attempted to address the issue by commenting on the actress’s post to express her displeasure. However, she alleged that her comments were repeatedly deleted, preventing her from publicly raising concerns under the post.
The incident quickly attracted attention on social media, with many users reacting to the allegation and debating the ethical use of artificial intelligence and digital image-editing tools. The controversy generated widespread discussion, with some users criticizing the alleged use of another person’s image, while others called for caution until the circumstances were clarified.
Following the growing backlash, Anita Joseph reportedly removed the controversial image from her social media page and issued a public apology.
The actress explained that the incident resulted from an error involving an Artificial Intelligence (AI) image-generation tool rather than a deliberate attempt to copy or steal another person’s content. She expressed regret over the situation and apologised to Caramel Plug and her followers for the misunderstanding.
Despite the apology, the incident has sparked fresh conversations about the responsible use of AI-generated content, copyright protection, and the importance of obtaining permission before using or modifying another person’s photographs for public display.
