APC Takes Kano Assembly Seat in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Poll
A wide gap in the final figures handed the All Progressives Congress a clear victory in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency by-election in Kano State on Saturday.
APC candidate Hussaini Yusuf-Datti emerged victorious with 22,890 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Habib Hamisu of the Peoples Redemption Party, who recorded 270 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced the result after the votes were collated, with returning officer Ibrahim Tajo-Suraj formally declaring Yusuf-Datti elected.
The APC candidate won by a margin of 22,620 votes, according to the figures announced at the collation centre.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s Abdullahi Adamu came a distant third with 108 votes. Bala Mohammed-Sani of the Action Democratic Party followed with 89 votes.
Aliyu Abdullahi, who contested under the All Peoples Party, received 53 votes, while Labour Party candidate Abubakar Yahya-Mohammed secured 39 votes.
While announcing the result, Tajo-Suraj said Yusuf-Datti had fulfilled the requirements of the law and obtained the highest number of votes cast in the election.
He subsequently declared the APC candidate the winner and returned him elected.
The election became necessary after the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa seat in the Kano State House of Assembly became vacant.
The previous occupant, Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, left the state legislature after moving to the House of Representatives.
Yusuf-Datti’s victory therefore brings the APC back into the constituency’s seat at the Kano State House of Assembly, where he is set to serve as the new representative for Dawakin Kudu/Warawa.
